For Day One's ride, we met at Beth's house in Boulder at 7AM.
We headed north on local bike paths.
After leaving town we took US36 north.
After 13 miles, at the first SAG stop, we met up with a group leaving from Sandy's house in Berthoud.
After the first SAG stop, we had a 17 mile climb from 5400 to 9300 feet. Most of the climb was at 4% to 6% grade, but it topped out at 10% to 13% for the last few miles.
Beth and Sandy did a great job stocking the SAG stops. There were strawberries, kiwis, peaches, grapes, and bananas. Not to mention Power Bars, Cliff Bars, pretzels, PB&J, and other goodies. (ABB beware. And Jeff, they outdid us.)
Later, on our left was St. Malo Chapel, a Roman Catholic Church. Pope John Paul was here in 1993.
We had great views of Mt. Meeker and Long's Peak all day. Our ride ended with a nice downhill into Estes Park. 59 miles cycled, 6000 feet of climb up to about 9300 feet max.
