Day 14 - Pocatello to Idaho Falls, ID

Today: 65 miles, 829 feet of climb
Cumulative: 990 miles, 40721 feet of climb

Happy 4th!

Happy Independence Day! I hope everyone had a good holiday. For us, it was another day of riding. The towns we came into this morning were empty and everything was closed. But by the time we got to Idaho Falls, flags were flying, the sky was sunny and blue, and families were walking along the greenpath near the falls.

More farm roads today
Today was the last easy day for a while, flat and only 65 miles to Idaho Falls. By the way, on this trip we stay at Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Sioux Falls, Niagara Falls, and Little Falls. The route was mostly northward on farm roads today and we had a tailwind. We like tailwinds and one of the first things we do in the morning is to look at the direction the flag is blowing.

The Snake River at our side again

After loading luggage at 8AM we hit the road. John joined the five of us today. It was easy sailing up the farm roads and we covered the 65.3 miles in 3 hours and 42 minutes of riding time for an average of 17.6mph.

Idaho Falls

The scenery was similar to yesterday. Farms on both sides of us with crops being irrigated by a couple of different types of irrigation systems. The mountains are still to our right and we’ve seen a few mountains to the north with snow on them. We crossed the Snake River a few more times and rode right next to it for several miles during the day. It was 47 degrees again this morning here and in Pocatello, so we expect it to be cold as we head up to Jackson tomorrow. It is supposed to be a difficult day at 88 miles and 5500 feet of climbing. For now, it is time to rest up for tomorrow.
